Can you believe that John Schneider or Bo Duke, from the popular cult show “Dukes of Hazard“, sold his 1969 Dodge Charger on eBay for over 9.9 million Dollars. If this is legitimate then the old General Lee from the Dukes of Hazard may have beat out the previous most expensive item sold on eBay which was a Gulfstream ll business jet that sold in 2001 for $4.9 million dollars.
The bidding was held up once after an earlier bid up when it hit 6.7 million dollars to keep out the fakes after this the bidders were asked to register first.
According to the auction house Christie’s this is the second highest price every paid for a car at auction just 1.1 million under the 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royale Sports Coupe that was auction off by Christie’s in 1987.
In a CNN Article John Schneider is quoted as saying: “I’m excited as I can be but I’m not going to believe it until my banker calls and says ‘buy me a beer.”
eBay took many precautions during the bidding including contacting the bidders to make sure they could afford the millions of buckaroos!
On a scale of 1 -10 John Schneider said this “has got to be a Twelve”
John should be more than happy because according to the insurance industry this car’s estimated worth was only about $200 thousand dollars.
In a 2004 survey the General Lee was named the most popular TV or movie car in America.
Schneider said that one of his first calls when starting his new movie “Collier & Co.” will be to the owner of the car because he will need to rent it back from them.
This is just an amazing story about the power of eBay and how eBay has change the face of commerce around the world.
